Ilayanar Velur Murugan Temple, Kanchipuram
It is a 1000 year old Murugan/Karthikeya temple located near Kanchipuram (8 kms from Walajabad and 2 kms from Kavanthandalam). Unlike other Murugan temples where the Lord has 2 consorts – Valli and Devasena, here they appear in a single from called Gajavalli.The village itself gets its name from Vel (spear).
There is a separate shrine for Vel or the spear of Lord Murugan and till date nobody has been able to identify the base of this spear or the depth to which it goes. The is 6 feet tall and is known by the name of Balasubramanya.This temple has been sung by Arunagirinathar in his Tirupugazh.Devotees who are having problems with their careers/jobs offer their prayers in this temple and get it resolved. There is also a shrine for Santhana Ganapathy who blesses people with Santhana Bhagya.
