Kirateshwar Mahadev Shiva Temple, Sikkim
Location – The Kirateshwar Mahadev Temple is located near river Rangit in Legship, Western Sikkim. A foot bridge connects the temple to the main road.
Legend – It is believed that this is the place where Lord Shiva appeared in front of Arjuna and blessed him for the Mahabharata war.
Main Deity – It is said that the Lord here is self-manifested (Swayambhu). Here, lord Shiva is in the form of Shivling. Till date, the Shivling is the only idol that is worshiped here. There are other shrines for Sree Ram and Durga too.
Prayers – Devotees believe that a visit to this temple earns then precious boons for two lifetimes. Devotees also pray for children and wish fulfillment. Some people also believe that a visit to this place is equal to a visit to Chaardham (4 holy places of lord Shiva).
Festivals – During the month of January, Maha Shivratri is celebrated. Another festival, Bala Chaturdasi is celebrated during November-December.
The Puja is done strictly according to Vedic rituals. Sometimes, the devotees line up outside till some of the rituals are over. Then they are allowed inside. Everyday Aarti takes place during morning and evening.

How to reach – This temple is located at about 4 kilometers from Pelling, on the Gayzing-Pelling route. The temple can be easily visited from cities like Geyzing and Pemayangtse. It can be accessed by train and air from Siliguri.There is a guest house for accommodation of the devotees.
