Kamashile – Temple where Chandi Homam happens daily
Sri Bramhi Durga Parameshwari temple is located in Kamalashile 35 Kms from Kundapur, Udupi district in Karnataka. Located amidst tropical forests with the Kubja river flowing, this temple is a must visit. The main deity is Sri Bramhi Durga Parameshwariin the form of a shiva linga which encompasses the deities of Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswathi.
Specialties:
- One great thing about this temple is that Chandi Homams happen almost on a daily basis here,which is adding a lot of power to the temple. Apart from it, chanting of the Durga Saptashati etc. are performed regularly.
- “Salaam Puja” is conducted everyday evening as a remembrance of the Muslim rulers of Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali.
- Mud (Mrutika) is the special prasadam here. This mud is applied to the Shiva Linga and kept for 15 days. Then it is given as prasad.
- Cave temple called Supashwa near the temple where several saints have been said to have performed penance. It also has several Shiva Linga, Shrine of Nagaraja (Snakes). Deep inside the cave is filled with bats and. A small stream starts from this cave and joins the river.
There is a separate shrine for Veerabhadra who is said to guard the town.
